Time management techniques that work for virtual assistants

Updated: May 10, 2022

As a virtual assistant, it is very easy to be overwhelmed by the tasks delegated by your client. So, time management is essential to be an effective virtual assistant. We are going to introduce you to some effective time management techniques that will help you at work.

1. Write down everything

Write everything you can. You may have a very good memory, but surely you will forget something. Sometimes, we can forget the smaller tasks, but some other times it might be the most important things that slip your mind.

Write down everything it is said on paper or some task management software. A written or digital file can help you to create a calendar so you know exactly what you do with your time and to organize.

2. Schedule your day

A to-do list is your friend, because it can help you to organize your day. Make the list before leaving so you can include the most pressing tasks for your next work day. If you cannot make the list before leaving, then write it when you begin your work day.

Also, a to-do list will help you to set a time limit to your tasks. This time limit might be useful to cross many tasks off your list. However, it is possible that some tasks are so important that you might have to keep on them until they are done. In that case, try to set a time limit for those tasks too.

3. Prioritize your tasks

You have to decide what tasks are more urgent and important. However, as a virtual assistant you might not have enough knowledge to set priorities correctly.

So, if you do not know what is essential, ask your client what you should prioritize. Spend your most productive time handling the task with the highest priority. You will see that effort will make a difference for your client.

If you implement these time-management techniques, you will become very effective and your client will be impressed.
