Managing stress as a virtual assistant

Virtual assistants' work days are always different and that can make them stressful. So, this feature makes it necessary to handle stress as part of our everyday work routine. Do you know how to do it? Let’s talk about some tips that will help you –we hope– to handle better stress.

1. Try to stay calm

The best way to keep calm is to practice some form of relaxation. Doing meditation, tai chi or yoga many times a week can be great to deal with stress.

Besides, to help you to stay calm, you need a clear separation of your work and personal time. When you are off work, leave your work behind. Resist the temptation of checking your email.

2. Manage your time better

If you don’t do it already, you need to work without distractions as best as you can. Those distractions can be your colleagues, incoming emails or calls. Something helpful could be following the pomodoro technique. The idea is to focus on work in chunks of 25 minutes, and after have a 5 minute rest.

3. Check you have all the resources to do your job

In your job, you will see where you are being inefficient and where there is a bottleneck. When that happens, is there some resource missing? Is it a lack of skill?

Sometimes a lack of tools or skill makes your job more difficult and stressful. If you can, talk to your client and explain how the missing tool could help you do your job more effectively.

Now, in case your stress is caused by a lack of skill, you can research on your own about how to perform that task better. If necessary, ask your client for a more thorough training.
